The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, geographic name Elbsandsteingebirge, is located 25 km from the worldfamous Art- and Culture metropolis Dresden. The Sandstone Mountains includes 450 km2 to the left and to the right of the river Elbe - second largest river in Germany. It rise in the Czech Republik and flow into the North Sea.
Hardly any other region in Germany associates so many extremes on close space: Bizarre rocks, steeply towering mightful stones, rugged rocks, romantic valleys, close gorges, dense forests and high plains.
The variety of this unique landscape, partly saved as national park with its rich biota, indicates the Elbsandsteingebirge (Elbe Sandstone Mountains).
Swiss painters have accurately related it as Saxon Switzerland. Down to the present day the landscape has not changed much as the painters explored it. Here you can enjoy your holiday throughout the whole year surrounded by the most beautiful nature, in the midst of a special cultural landscape.
